Jesus is Enough

This was the first-ever mission in the history of the Jungle Discipleship School. It wasn’t long — just over a week — but it was rich. Boats, motorcycles, reunions, prayer, and a question that sat heavy the whole way: is Jesus and love enough?
For a decade in Burma, Dave had often felt quiet nudges from God to become someone’s friend — keep a contact, find a way to meet again in the jungle. There was no long-term scheme. Just friendship. When this first JDS mission had to be planned alone — boats, bikes, places to sleep, people to meet — those friendships suddenly showed a deeper purpose. Friends helped organize a boat, park motorcycles, and open their homes. K’Nuh met the team with a gang of motorcycles at exactly the right time, without shared language or phone signal.
They stayed with the Commando Battalion — with K’Nuh (who lost a leg to a Burma Army landmine and now serves with a prosthetic), his wife, and a revolving door of commandos. They met the VCDS of the Karen Army and joined Karen Revolution Day in the jungle — January 31, marking 75 years of fighting for freedom. Entire generations have never known life without war.
After the ceremony came time with Day Chit’s family. Day Chit — a gentle, humble young Karen leader and dear friend — had been killed by the Burma Army that year. His aunt glanced at a smiling photo of Dave and Day Chit, turned away, and wept. An officer who had been Day Chit’s best friend came simply because Day Chit had talked about Dave so much. Grief and love sat in the same room.
Hiking into the old FBR ground as guests, they were welcomed like family. Leaving FBR meant arriving without that umbrella of resources, medicine, or military training programs. “The only thing I can bring now is Jesus and my love,” Dave reflected to teammate Jala. “I hope it’s enough.” Jala pointed to the friends hosting and feeding them for nothing in return: “We’re here now, because of love. It’s enough.”
At the Officer Training School they taught leadership, prayed for students, and reunited with Big Head — love washing over someone who hadn’t felt much affection in months. On the boat home, the summary was simple: they had prayed with many people, encouraged many people.Jesus and love is enough.
